Here is another good question....I was once again searching for a message to listen to and I found something that I think to be rather disturbing. Mark Driscoll was talking about whether or not Jesus went to hell and his conclusion was no. I just watched a short clip of it but that is what he concluded. That Jesus said "It is finished" and also that when he was talking one of the criminals with him, he said "You will dine with me in paradise." I was forced to think about the death of Jesus and what that means to me. I could not just take what he was saying in that short little clip as true. I think that his death meant something so much more. I asked a Stephen about it and he came up with something that seems to be backed up by scripture and made more sense in my mind that Jesus just dying and the curtain tearing in two and a great earthquake and then Jesus is partying in heaven and then he comes back to earth three days later. You should ask Stephen about what he thinks about it...I found it to be rather interesting.
When Jesus died, he took the full wrath of God upon himself and therefore he took the punishment that we deserved...death...for eternity. If Jesus had not died for us, then we would have to spend eternity in hell for our punishment. So then what do you believe...did Jesus go to hell or did he not? These are thoughts that I have gotten from Stephen and things that I have read and just stuff that I have thought. I would highly recommend checking and backing the things that you find and believe against the Bible. There was another sermon from Mark Driscoll that I actually listen to all of it and there were somethings that he said that I was not so sure of.
I don't know if this makes sense, I hope it does. I think that it is good to admire pastors and listen to their teachings and on what they think about the Bible, but do go on just believing every word they say. You should check what they say with the Bible and with others around you to make sure that they are speaking the truth. Not to say that Mark isn't, I am just saying that you should watch what you listen too. (Yes, I know I just said that awesomely and you all should like it!)
